After months of teasers and anticipation, Blizzard has finally announced Sombra, the second hero to be added to Overwatch. They also announced new Arcade mode today, which will give players all-new ways to play the hero-based shooter and a new way to earn loot boxes outside of the normal experience-based progression.

In the game’s fiction, Sombra is a hacker who’s a member of the Los Muertos gang of Mexico, and works with the villainous Talon organization, along with the characters Reaper and Widowmaker. The announcement was accompanied by an Overwatch animated short featuring the new character.
Sombra’s abilities and weapon, which is a short-range machine pistol. Her abilities are a lot like what’s seen in the trailer. Hack can be used on enemies to stop them from using abilities, or on health packs to make them unusable by enemies. Thermoptic Camo lets her go invisible, gaining movement speed; this effect ends by attacking, using abilities, or taking damage. Translocator tosses out a beacon that she can teleport to, even while it’s still moving. Finally, EMP lets out a blast around her, destroying barriers and shields, and hacking nearby enemies.
As for her voice, she is the one in the feature picture with Sombra. You can check Carolina Ravassa out on her Twitter here.

There are also new maps on the way, including Oasis, which is pictured below. There’s also a new mode called Arcade on the way that will host “new game modes, new rulesets, and exclusive maps.” One of these maps is Echo Point Antarctica. It’s designed for Arcade’s 1v1 and 3v3 Arena game modes, which are just two of the modes coming.

The Arcade will offer new Loot Box rewards. Playing and winning three matches will reward you with a Loot Box. This can happen three times during a given week, with your progress being reset on a fixed day. Blizzard will also sometimes offer Loot Box rewards for winning a match in a specific mode.
In the future, whenever seasonal modes like LucioBall or Junkenstein’s Revenge are introduced, they’ll be located in the Arcade.
